Ice Cream for Breakfast Day
Each month has a special day which is peculiar, strange and sometimes funny. For example, there is Dr. Suess Day in March, International Chicken Wing Day in July and National Punctuation Day in September.
So, in this month, February, there also should be something, right? Yes, every year on the first Saturday of February, the world celebrates Ice Cream for Breakfast Day. On this day many people eat ice cream while having breakfast.
Origins
The holiday was invented on a February morning during the 1960s by Florence Rappaport, the mother of six children. To entertain her two youngest children, Ruth and Joe, she declared it to be Ice Cream for Breakfast Day.
She explained, "The kids were complaining that it was too cold to do anything. So, I just said, 'Let's have ice cream for breakfast.” The next year, they reminded her of the day and a tradition began. When the siblings grew up, they introduced the tradition to friends and the tradition began to spread.
