India's history is truly glorious
Ram defeated Raavan,
the king of demons and abductor of Sita,
proving the fact,
that good wins over evil.
His devotee Hanuman, saver of Lakshman and passer of rings,
was the man of the battle.
Crossing the Palk Strait and fighting demons,
showed that Ram was a man of courage and determination.
The five mighty Pandavas,
fought the hundred cunning Kauravas,
for the throne of Hastinapur,
capital of the Kuru kingdom.
Arjun, the unbeatable archer and ruthless Bhim with his mighty mace,
were an unbeatable duo.
The war that lasted for eighteen days,
had triumphs and tragedies.
The mighty yet divided kingdoms,
fell prey to the Afghans and Turks,
by looting temples,
and massacring cities.
Yet they built monuments,
like the majestic Qutub Minar and the floral Lodi Garden.
It was the time of rise in
trade, commerce and Islam.
Then came Akbar the Great,
the just and courageous Mughal.
His great grandson Aurangzeb,
cruel and foolish, edged the dynasty to its end.
Birbal the wise and Tansen the musician,
were two of Akbar’s nine gems.
He still remains in the hearts,
of his beloved Indians.
The Maratha dynasty,
was Aurangzeb's greatest enemy.
Shivaji's guerrilla warfare and Baji Rao's military skills,
brought glory to the dynasty.
Fighting not only Mughals, but also the Adil Shahi Sultanate,
they ruled over almost all of India.
Led by the Peshwas
They were divided into Bhonsles, Gaekwads, Scindias and Holkars.
Soon the storm came,
with the British, French and Dutch.
The Revolt of 1857 was the response,
to the Britishers’ annexation of the princely states.
Mahatma Gandhi, the satyagrahi and valiant Shubash Chandra Bose,
brought freedom closer,
on the fifteenth of August 1947.
The joyous day become tragic by India’s partition.
The numerous forts and museums,
Are doors that connect the present to the rich and diverse past.
